Welcome to The Weekly

The is the first of our new weekly info bulletin for all players, coaches and parents – The Weekly.

The goal of The Weekly is to keep everyone up-to-date and informed about what’s happening in the domestic comp, rules and regs that need highlighting, upcoming events, and key messages from the committee.

We hope you find it helpful!

As always, if you have a question and don’t see an answer here, reach out to us at bdaba.com.au/contact/

Uniform rules amnesty

We’ve made some slight changes to the uniform rules.

While we wait for more association jerseys to arrive, the uniform rules will not be applied for the first 3 weeks of the competition (however you cannot take the court if your shorts have pockets.)

More info here: bdaba.com.au/update-to-uniform-regulations/

Fill-in rules + procedure

Per Basketball Victoria rules, a non-registered player can “fill in” for a maximum of 2 games per calendar year. We have decided this season not to charge for a fill-in player. (We’ll let you know if that changes.)

Fill-in players are added on the scoring iPad.

Coaches of graded teams are asked to please not use a fill-in player unless necessary to avoid a forfeit or to provide a single substitute.

We had a few teams use a fill-in last week when they already had 7 players.

Unnecessary use of fill-in players makes it harder to evaluate graded teams and keep the comp balanced.

Saturday open training sessions

Last Saturday we held our first free and open training session at the BARC for domestic players.

And it was great! Thanks to Eric Cerda and Zac Wearne for running some excellent fundamental drills, and to all the parents and players for showing up and getting stuck in.

We’ll try and put these sessions on most Saturdays (dependent on coach availability, squad tournaments etc.)

Players aged 7 – 11 from 3 – 4pm, and players aged 12+ from 4 – 5pm.

Confirmed dates:

  • Saturday Feb. 17, 3 – 5pm
  • Saturday Mar. 2, 3 – 5pm
  • Saturday Mar. 16. 3 – 5pm

New sessions will be added to bdaba.com.au/events/

Thanks to our refs!

As we always say, without our refs there can be no competition.

Thank you to all our great local refs!

It’s been great to see some new and returning refs on the courts this season – a big welcome and thanks to you!

Timeline for player movement in graded comp

Teams in the graded comps (boys 10s, 12s, 14s and girls 13s and 17s) will remain unchanged for weeks 1 – 3.

After week 3, the committee will work with coaches to assess teams and move players between teams if necessary to improve the balance of the competition.

Parents and coaches will be notified of player movements via text message.

Options for 4:15 games next season

We have heard from some parents that the 4:15pm games are difficult to get to.

As an association, we have some options for next season to reduce the number of 4:15 games.

Here’s some more info: bdaba.com.au/what-to-do-about-415-games/

High temps on Tuesday

With high temps forecast for tomorrow, now’s a good time for all players, coaches and parents to take a little refresher of the Basketball Victoria Climate Policy.

In a nutshell, if the court temp gets above 35 degrees, there’ll be some changes to games.

If the court temp gets above 40 degrees, play must be stopped.

If that happens tomorrow we’ll post immediately to Facebook, and text all coaches.
