All Parents – Please Take a Turn Scoring!
All parents are reminded that scoring should not be left to one or two of the same people every week.
If you haven’t taken a turn scoring, please do so at your next game.
The iPad and scoreboard system is very easy to use, and one of the parents will help you figure it out.
If you get stuck, just ask the night supervisor (fluoro vest) or a referee or coach.
These friendly people will be happy to help you!
Please Avoid Forfeits
We’ve had a number of forfeits over the past few weeks.
Forfeits are a huge bummer, particularly for the other team who have paid to play and then don’t get to, through no fault of their own.
We do understand that people get sick and unexpected things happen.
But if your team looks like it might be short please do everything you can to get 4 or 5 players on the court.
Remember:
- We have a waiting list of players. Please contact competitions@bairnsdalebasketball.com.au to see if you can get a fill-in.
- Fill-ins are free. They can play 2 games before having to register. Know a friend that can bounce a round bouncy ball and run up and down the court? Have them fill in!
- If you think you’ll be short often during the season, please add another player to your team!
If forfeits continue we will look at bringing in new penalties for forfeiting teams.
This could include excluding teams from finals if they forfeit a certain number of games, or increasing the forfeit loss from 20 – 0 to a bigger margin.
So please try not to forfeit!
Saturday Sessions
Thank you to all those coaches who have volunteered their time to lead the Saturday Sessions!
We’ve heard great feedback from parents and players, and so hope to be able to continue to host Saturday Sessions in the future.
The Saturday Sessions are typically every second Saturday, on courts 1 and 2 from 3 – 5pm.
The dates for the rest of Term 2 are Saturday June 1 and Saturday June 15.
In addition to being for young players, we hope these sessions also help our beginner and developing coaches learn some drills and techniques from our more experienced coaches.
So if you’re relatively new to coaching, please come along and help out!
15 Point Cap – Under 10s and Under 12s
We’ve heard a lot of positive feedback, and some negative feedback, about the new 15 points cap introduced this season in the mixed under 10s and boys under 12 comps.
We’re keen to hear from all parents of players in those comps so we can gauge whether to continue with the points cap, change it, or get rid of it all together.
If you have a player in the under 10s or under 12s, please take 30 seconds to complete this survey. (We’ll only accept one response per registered player.)
Free Online Development Session for Coaches
Basketball Australia is hosting a free online coach development session on “creating a win-win environment with parents.”
The seminar will be presented by UNT Center for Sport Psychology and Athlete Mental Health, and is for coaches who want to enhance their relationship with parents of athletes.
Specifically, it will focus on providing strategies on how to deal with over-concerned or “challenging” parents.
June 5, 8pm.
We Need a Website Helper!
Do you know someone interested in learning how to build and manage a WordPress website?
We are looking for a volunteer to manage the BDABA website.
The volunteer web manager would work alongside the committee to add and edit content on the website.
The volunteer will receive thorough upfront training and on-going support as needed.
This could be a great opportunity for a student or a recent school leaver looking to boost their experience in websites and digital content. (But people of all stripes are encouraged to apply!)
