James Myers Selected for 2024 Ivor Burge State Team

One of Bairnsdale Basketball’s brightest stars continues to represent our region with pride and distinction.

A huge congratulations to James Myers, who has been selected in Basketball Victoria’s 2024 Victorian Ivor Burge State team to compete at the National Championships in January and February.

The Ivor Burge State team is for players with an intellectual disability.

This selection continues James’ extraordinary journey in basketball.

James started to play basketball in grade 4 when the grade 5/6 team was short a player for inter-school basketball.

This was the time he found he really enjoyed the game.

He kept playing in secondary school, and joined the Bairnsdale & District Amateur Basketball Association to improve his skills.

In 2008, a scout for Basketball Victoria’s Ivor Burge team watched James play in Traralgon, and invited him to try out for the men’s state team.

At 13 years old, he was the youngest player by quite a few years. Every year since, he has tried out and has been accepted into the team.

During the National Championships the Coach from the Australian Boomerangs team watches the players and then invites players to try out for the Australian team.

In 2015, James was invited to join the Australian Boomerangs.

He has played on the world stage five times, and loves representing his country.

James has been a key member of the Australian Boomerangs team, which has had great success against teams from all over the world, including tournaments in France and Italy.

James currently plays in the BDABA Open Men’s competition on Wednesdays, for Magic.

Congratulations, James, on this latest honour.

We are all proud of your accomplishments!
