UPDATED: Expressions of Interest are now open.
If you are intending for your child to play next year, you must complete the Expression of Interest form so we can make sure your child is graded and assigned to a team.
We hope you and your children are having an enjoyable season with Bairnsdale Basketball.
We know that some young players are having a tough time, due to disparities between teams.
To those young players, we apologise. The goal of this committee is to create a comp that is fun and fair, and that achieves the best outcomes for the most number of players.
Moving to Grading
This email is to confirm that the under 12s and under 14s competition will be moving to a graded format next year.
The mixed under 10s, and girls under 13s comps will continue to be graded, and the new girls under 17s competition will be graded.
In a nutshell what that means is that:
- All players who will be playing in these age groups next season will be evaluated by parents and coaches over the remaining weeks of the season.
- A subcommittee of our squad coaches, other experienced coaches and committee members will assign those players to teams of 7 or 8 with the goal to make the teams as even as possible.
- The first few weeks of the round robin competition in Term 1 of next year will give us a period to evaluate the teams and move players, if necessary, before the full Winter season begins in term 2.
A Note on Under 10s
The under 10s comp will continue to be graded.
We are aware that the under 10s comp this season wasn’t as even as it should have been.
We’ve rejigged our grading process, and will be re-evaluating all players over the next two weeks that will be in that age division next year.
We hope it improves the competition.
What Now? The Grading Process
At games on Tuesday Oct. 31 and Tuesday Nov. 14, the committee will provide 2 grading sheets to each team, on each of those nights.
Two parents or family members (preferably those with some experience of playing or watching basketball) will be asked to grade players on the opposition team.
If your coach is able to help with that grading, that’s terrific. (But we know coaches are busy watching their own players during games!)
The grading form will have all the info you need about what you need to do.
Thank you, in advance, for your assistance in grading players. It will help us create a competition that is more even, competitive and fun for players.
Information Meeting Thursday
Got any questions or concerns?
Please come to an information meeting this coming Thursday, Nov. 2 at The Hub, from 6 – 7pm.
We’ll endeavor to answer any questions you have, and listen to your ideas and suggestions as to how to make next season run as smoothly as possible.
If you can’t make it to that meeting, you can always reach out the committee at bdaba.com.au/contact/
One Source of Truth
If you ever want to know something about the competition, your best first step is to check the website: bdaba.com.au
You don’t need to guess, or rely on rumors and misinformation – just check the website.
There’s info there about news and events, comp rules and regs, etc.
And if you can’t find what you’re looking for there, you can contact the committee through the website’s Contact Us page, and ask your question.
You can also ask a committee member on game nights – look for the Night Supervisor in the lovely fluro vest.
Thanks.
See you at the BARC!
