There have been a lot of questions come through regarding the rollout of the A & B competitions recently so I thought I would put together a bit of information for everyone regarding both the competition and what we are working on for the future as a committee. We have been Busy!
- Expansion of Competition
- Bairnsdale/Lakes Entrance Junior Tournament
- New Facility
- Committee Positions
Expansion of Competition
The committee has been in talks with Nagle College regarding expansion of the competition to be held on a Monday night.
We will be shifting the under 10’s to the Monday as it is a smaller competition and will allow the two largest competitions U12 Boys and Under 14 Boys to expand on the Tuesday night.
This will also open the ability for players to opt to play up an age group from U10 – U12 and under 12 – U14’s. Please note that competition space may impact the number of children allowed to play up. At this stage we are taking registrations as we believe we will have enough space. (Players wanting to play in two age groups, will pay two registrations)
Once this phase is complete, we aim to roll out the second phase for the summer season. This will see another night added to the competition and the Wednesday night Girls and Boys competitions expanded, and where possible, and A & B grade added. We will also be playing our representative Squad teams into an age group above to help their development as a team.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between A & B?
A is for children that want to develop in a highly competitive competition. They will be teamed with and play against other skilled players.
B is for children who would like to develop in a less competitive environment. This is for new players and players who need some space to develop without highly skilled players on the court.
Will there be Finals in Both Grades?
Yes, there will be finals in both Grades
The competition has begun, and I think I have entered my child in the wrong grade?
In the first few weeks you can reach out to the competition coordinator if you think your child might be needing to switch grades. Our Graded format will see a week 3-5 shuffle of players between teams (and grades where applicable) to balance out the competition until the end of the season.
Can my child Play A grade and up an Age Group?
Yes, again there may be limitations on numbers, but we are taking second registrations.
Why create B grade, why not keep everyone together?
Splitting into two grades will allow players to play with and against, other players of a similar skill level.
In the current format, development of new players can be impacted by having less involvement in the game. Creating teams with a smaller skills gap, will allow these players to get more involved on the court and foster development.
Bairnsdale/Lakes Entrance Junior Tournament
The Bairnsdale Committee and Lakes Entrance Committee will be teaming up this year to bring back the old Bairnsdale Tournament (Now Bairnsdale & Lakes Junior Tournament) to our region! This will be a big undertaking by both committees, and we look forward to getting back on the calendar for this coming tournament season. This will allow family and friends to come and watch their family play and bring people and funds into the community. If you would like to be involved with helping this venture, please join our Tournament Sub Committee.
New Facility
We are working on a new Basketball/Sporting centre for Bairnsdale. This project will take a long time, but we are making progress. Positions will be available on a subcommittee down the track for those wanting to assist.
Committee Positions
Positions are available on the committee and some sub committees. These positions are for highly motivated people who want to contribute to the future of Bairnsdale Basketball or to assist with one of the various projects we run (such as Squad, Tournament or Aussie Hoops).
