We’re Going Back to Summer and Winter Seasons

From 2024 onward, Bairnsdale Basketball will go back to the Summer and Winter season alignment which was the usual practice for the local comp before the disruptions of the COVID years.

The Winter season will take place across terms 2 and 3 of the school calendar, and the Summer season across term 4 and then term 1 of the following calendar year.

To facilitate this change, a shortened, round robin season will take place in Term 1 of 2024.

This will consist of 8 weeks of games in February and March, in a round robin format, without finals.

The Winter season will then commence in Term 2, and the Summer season in Term 4.

Grading in 2024

It is our intention that from the beginning of 2024, the under 12s and under 14s boys competitions will be graded, in addition to the under 10s and girls competitions which are currently graded.

That means players will be placed on teams by an association sub-committee based on their experience and skill level, the goal being that teams are as evenly matched as possible.

The round robin season in Term 1, 2024 will be a good chance to see if the new graded teams are even, or if changes need to be made.

Parents, coaches and players should be aware that in the first 3 weeks of the competition players may be moved between teams to keep the competition well balanced and even.

We will do our best to reduce player movement as much as possible.

We’ll keep you posted with news about grading as it comes to hand.

Thinking of Playing in 2024?

In order to plan for basketball in 2024, we need an idea of how many players to expect in each age division.

In the next few days we’ll release an Expression of Interest link through PlayHQ.

If you are thinking of playing in 2024, please fill out the form, and share it with everyone you know also planning on playing next season.

Thank you!
